The Sustainable Libraries Initiative is celebrating the certification of Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library!
Library Director, Claudia Depkin, is one of the founding members of the Sustainable Libraries Initiative. Supporting this program and advocating for libraries to act in support of climate resilience for their organizations and communities, Claudia has continued to provide valuable leadership during her years of involvement with the Sustainable Libraries Initiative. The certification of Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library is huge achievement and serves as a model of how triple bottom line sustainability can be integrated in libraries for the benefit of our communities and our planet. The HKDPL Green Team and staff at the main library and village branch have worked to reduce energy, provide innovative programming, and forge partnerships with other organizations to reach deeper into the community they serve. Their KingCon Event has attracted teens and young adults to the library for a local comic mini convention with workshops, vendors, and video games. A partnership with the Mental Health Association of Westchester brings vital services to their community by provide access to mental health services through the library. They have regular programming that connects their community members with each other and with the natural environment.
