National Climate Action Strategy to be created by the SLI & ALA's new partnership
On October 25 the Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) and the American Libraries Association (ALA) announced their new partnership to create a National Clime Action Strategy, a strategic plan outlining how libraries can address a mitigate issues related to climate change. This National Climate Action Strategy will serve as a guide for libraries on ways they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, help their communities adapt to climate change, and engage in climate justice work.
This past weekend, at ALA's LibLearnX conference in Baltimore, ALA members leaders with experience focused on sustainability met to officially communicate their intentions to provide clarity about their purpose for creating this plan and what their aspirations are. The SLI along with ALA Council's Committee on Sustainability will also be conducting virtual sessions as well as surveys to collect feedback and data to provide an understanding of what the vision for the Climate Action Strategy is meant for and provide assurance and foster encouragement that this is the right direction to move towards.
