The March to End Fossil Fuels
This past Sunday, September 17, 2023, the Sustainable Libraries Initiative's Administrators, Rebekkah Smith Aldrich (President), Matthew Bollerman (Vice President), and Roger Reyes (Treasurer) joined tens of thousands of climate change activists at The March to End Fossil Fuels in Manhattan, New York City. The United Nations is calling on world leaders, including the President of the United States, to take real steps to lead us off fossil fuels to protect people and the planet.
On September 20, 2023, in New York, the UN Climate Ambition Summit will gather world leaders to commit to phasing out fossil fuels. Thousands of climate advocates of all ages took to the streets just days before the summit to demand bold action to be taken to end fossil fuels. The passion of those in attendance was evident, especially from the younger climate advocates who expressed their message with ferocity urging the President to declare a climate emergency and block any new fossil fuel production.
Climate advocates have grown steadily infuriated at the drilling and mining that continues to expand amidst a summer of record-breaking heatwaves and toxic wildfire smoke. Fossil Fuel pollution has impacted all of us making it clear that the pollution from oil, gas, and coal is quickly deteriorating our earth and communities.
