The Sustainable Libraries Initiative is pleased to announce that the Longwood Public Library, located in Middle Island, New York, is our latest Certification Program recipient!
The successful completion of the Sustainable Libraries Certification Program (SLCP) complements the environmental stewardship they have already demonstrated by prioritizing energy efficiency and obtaining LEED Platinum Certification when expanding and renovating their facility in 2015. The SLCP process led the staff to find additional ways to reduce waste and expand their recycling efforts.
Reflecting on the certification process, Library Director, Lisa Jacobs, stated:
“Sustainability is a core part of who we are and what we do at Longwood Public Library. We are lucky that our community had the foresight to endorse a LEED Platinum building design several years ago. Going through the Sustainable Libraries Certification process has helped employees throughout our library add the sustainability ‘lens’ to many of our day-to-day practices. We look forward to incorporating even more sustainable practices into our service plan in the future.”
